Following the Sustainable Innovative Materials Exhibition, which took place in Coimbra from 27 March to 2 April, and where RUSTICASA contributed by presenting samples of its ITS (Insulated Timber System) and TFS (Timber Frame System) building systems, a catalogue of the solutions on display was developed. This catalogue can be consulted online at https://www.itecons.uc.pt/inovc.
The ITS™ system was born from the combination of the log house construction technique and the Timber Frame system. In addition to reconstituting the log with glued-laminated timber, adding cork to its core to increase its thermal performance, the pieces are joined together to form self-supporting structural panels, thus giving the construction system unrivalled benefits, both in terms of insulation and speed of construction. The ITS™ system is NP EN ISO 9001:2015 PT20/07363 certified and CE 1029 – CPR – PT21/07791 marked.
In timber construction, the Timber Frame System is the most widespread construction technique, allowing great freedom of architectural expression. The TFS system is a contemporary version of the half-timbered technique, consisting of a structural skeleton made up of uprights and crosspieces, the whole of which is braced with wood-based structural boards.
A Timber Frame “platform” structure is characterised by single-storey walls, with the first floor slab serving as a platform for the next floor. The TFS system is NP EN ISO 9001:2015 PT20/07363 certified and CE 1029 – CPR – PT23/08733 marked.
These actions were carried out as part of the INOVC+ project (www.itecons.uc.pt/services/projects/113), in partnership with the Centre’s Regional Coordination and Development Commission (https://www.ccdrc.pt/) and with the support of Alma Shopping Coimbra (http://almashopping.pt/).
