New CE Marking of the LTS™ System by rusticasa®: Guarantee of Quality and European Compliance

Obtaining the CE marking represents a significant milestone for any building system within the European Economic Area. Recently, rusticasa® achieved this important recognition for its LTS™ System (Laminated Timber System).

This certification demonstrates that the system complies with the essential requirements of the applicable European directives and regulations, reinforcing the confidence of clients, designers, and authorities in the product's performance and safety.

What is CE Marking?

The CE marking (Conformité Européenne) indicates that a product meets the health, safety, and environmental protection standards set by the European Union. In the construction sector, the marking is governed by the Construction Products Regulation (Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011), which mandates the assessment and verification of constancy of performance (AVCP) of products based on harmonised standards.

For timber construction systems such as LTS™, this assessment involves verifying structural behaviour, thermal and acoustic insulation, airtightness, durability, and other technical criteria in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011, based on EAD 340308-00-0203 – Timber Building Kits and European Technical Assessment (ETA) documents.

The LTS™ System by rusticasa®

The LTS™ System (Laminated Timber System) by rusticasa® is a glued laminated solid timber building system, based on the horizontal stacking of profiled logs interlocked together. These elements — known as laminated logs — feature a longitudinal tongue-and-groove joint, ensuring high airtightness and watertightness, as well as excellent hygrothermal performance.

The system’s design allows the construction of solid wood walls with high structural capacity, without the need for additional cladding or secondary structures. The profile cross-sections can vary according to the building’s thermal and structural requirements and allow for different types of interior and exterior finishes.

LTS™ stands out for its robustness, durability, and high aesthetic quality, making it ideal for architecturally demanding constructions and environmentally conscious buildings. The industrialisation of the construction process ensures dimensional precision and fast on-site assembly, reducing construction time and material waste.

Certification Process

The CE marking certification of the LTS™ System involved a rigorous technical assessment process. rusticasa® collaborated with notified bodies to carry out:

  • Laboratory testing: to determine the mechanical and durability characteristics of the components;
  • Factory Production Control (FPC) audits: ensuring consistent quality of the produced elements;
  • European Technical Assessment (ETA): a document establishing the technical basis for CE marking in the case of products without a harmonised standard.

This process culminated in the issuance of the Declaration of Performance (DoP) and the affixing of the CE mark to products associated with the LTS™ construction system.

Market Impact

The CE marking achievement represents added value for rusticasa® and its clients:

  • International credibility: facilitates exports to EU and EFTA markets;
  • Technical trust: ensures the system meets objective and comparable requirements;
  • Legal certainty: eases acceptance by authorities and insurers;
  • Sustainability valorisation: reinforces the commitment to sustainable construction aligned with EU directives for nearly zero-energy buildings (NZEB).

Conclusion

The CE marking of the LTS™ System by rusticasa® represents a key step in the European recognition of the quality and innovation of timber building systems. This achievement strengthens rusticasa®’s position as a benchmark in the sustainable construction sector and showcases the potential of laminated timber systems in the context of contemporary architecture, energy efficiency, and circularity.
