Casa do Rio Rural Hotel, in Vila Nova de Foz Côa, won the 2019 National Award for Wooden Architecture.

The architect Francisco Vieira de Campos’s project for Quinta do Vallado was considered the best by a jury chaired by Nuno Martins Melo, winner of the latest PNAM edition, in 2017, with “Os Passadiços do Paiva”. There were eight finalist works out of 17 selected across the country and islands.

The hotel has only six rooms, but is strategically located between the vineyards and the Douro River, built entirely of wood and suspended under a water line where there is still an old orange orchard.

At the award ceremony, which took place on November 8, 2019 at the Alcobaça Monastery, rusticasa®, as the company responsible for the construction of wood, was awarded “Distinction and Praise“.
